    Details
Spring Summer 1984 “Hypnos” was one of the seminal collections for Westwood’s career in the 80s. The collection had its roots in the punk movement that Westwood and her partner McClaren helped pioneer. A zany wild collection that was shown in Tokyo, models strutted, danced, leaped and twirled about the runway, sometimes in pairs or in groups of three at a time. The collection featured a series of pieces that imbued a DIY aesthetic with mismatching fabrics, absurd proportions, and bodysuits made out of sporting clothes (a style that would become synonymous with the collection). This style of the Hypnos jacket was sold during the early 80’s iteration of Westwood’s store “Worlds End”. This unique style jacket is done in a gingham fabric and is meant to drape over the shoulders like a poncho. It features pockets on the shoulders and side of the garment and a rubber penis-shaped button closure on the chest. The sleeves are adorned with bondage yellow velcro straps.
