Details Undercover’s Spring Summer 2003 “Scab” collection marked a turning point in Jun Takahashi’s career, as it was the first time he showed at Paris Fashion Week. Previously a relatively unknown designer outside of Japan, Takahashi finally brought his unique perspective to the world’s stage. Scab combines DIY Crust-Punk aesthetics with ethnic fabrics and unexpected silhouettes, the collection garnered additional attention for its closing, which featured models wearing an array of colored burkas, a less than subtle reference to 9/11 and the charged political climate that followed. Renowned for Takahashi’s idiosyncratic design elements, Scab is often attributed as one of the greatest debut collections to ever show at PFW to this day. One of Jun’s most overtly political statements in his garments, this tee features George Orwell's slogan for the authoritarian party in his novel 1984; “War Is Peace…”. The graphic also features the heads of global political figures Osama Bin Laden, George Bush and Kim Jong-Un crossed out.
