After securing a design job at Cathy Hardwick Ford found a place at Gucci as the womenswear ready-to-wear designer. Ford became notorious at the label for his provocative ad campaigns. After a few years designing both men's and women's collections, footwear, and bags Ford was promoted to creative director in 1994 following the departure of Dawn Mello.
