Details For his Autumn Winter 2002 collection, the designer set out to explore the duality of humans and their relationship with nature, titling the collection “Virginia Creeper” after the pest plant of the same name. To illustrate this dichotomy the designer created garments inspired by horror films and traditional military garments. Models wore vests and coats decked in cargo pockets and hand distressed crewnecks and hoodies reminiscent of school uniforms. The natural aesthetic becomes even more evident when looking at how each piece of clothing was treated with multiple different chemical washes, dyeing, and hand distressing; all to create a lived-in and time-weathered effect. This hoodie is a standout piece in the collection, done in a soft cotton fabrication. The front features a Virginia Creeper graphic printed in a collegiate school font with “Parthenocissus Quinquefolia” the scientific term for the plant on the chest.
