Raf Simons Multi-Pocket "Shipwreck" Work Jacket - AW04 “Waves”
Details For Autumn Winter 2004 “Waves” collection, Raf Simons channels a sense of individualism and spirituality. Various forms of “waves”, escapism, music and isolation inform the pieces produced for this collection. We see Simon’s play with proportions by incorporating jumpsuits styled with workwear and exaggerated blazers, bombers, and knitwear. The whole catwalk showcased the best of Simons’ supervision of proportions, as well as his love of mod culture, music, and themes of youthful rebellion. This exemplary piece, featured in look 9 of the catwalk is done in a nylon fabrication and features an intricate cargo pocket design, first seen on old Katherine Hamnett outerwear. The dual-layer construction gives the jacket a sturdy shape that allows it to retain its shape. On the lining is a patch with an excerpt from Jose Ortega y Gasset’s essay “In Search of Goethe From Within” in which he touches on themes of outward and inner experience all for the sake of finding one’s “destiny”.
