Maison Martin Margiela Five-Zip Distressed Leather Jacket - AW02

Deterring from the traditional celebrity lifestyle known throughout the fashion industry, the elusive Martin Margiela believed that clothes should speak for themselves. Before establishing the Maison, Margiela studied under Jean Paul Gaultier as an assistant where he sought out to learn the ins and outs of a fashion house. After a few years under Gaultier's tutelage, Margiela was encouraged to start his own label. Taking cues from French deconstructionist Jacques Derrida, the designer was known for looking back at the history of fashion and reinterpreting different styles, through repurposing and deconstructing. Much of his collections are a playful celebration of the construction of garments, their utility, and their ornate qualities. Through playful reinterpretation Margiela presents us with an alternate take on fashion, pointing out all its peculiarities through his unique design language.  This particular jacket is from line 10 his ready-to-wear menswear line, first presented in 1988. This cafe racer-style leather jacket is done in distressed black leather with a five zipper construction, armpit holes for better ventilation. Missing Zipper pull due to wear from the previous owner. Small tear in the lining.
